About Poh-Eng

Poh-Eng is a freelance dancer/performer and facilitator of environmental movement in wild places. She has taught 5 day retreats in Pembrokeshire, Ireland and currently teaches regular Somatic intuitive dance in The Gower, in studio and in site-specific locations. Her main influences are Helen Poynor, and Taiji Grandmaster and Lama, the late Dr. Shen Hongxun, from whom she studied Taijiwuxigong,  Taiji 37 and buqi energy healing. Her synthesis, of somatic dance and understanding of how chi moves through the body and Earth, incorporates biography and the non-human world as sources of inspiration for her work, writings, sound improv and teachings. For several years Poh-Eng has studied with Linda Hartley in ‘The Discipline of Authentic Movement’. Amy Voris and lecturers on the former MA in Dance and Somatic Well-being team, have inspired an experiential anatomy approach to her teaching.

Class Description

Invited as a dancer in “Monumentalise” series 1-8 video, commissioned by 20/20 Project from the Decolonising Arts Institute UAL, This is part of the main exhibition “We Are The Monument” from Jan. - Dec. 2024 at Graves Art Gallery, Sheffield. Also “Traces of Tissues”, a somatic costume piece commissioned for The Prague Quadrennial, 2019. Choreographed by Sally Deane and Charlotte Ostergaard.

Throughout May we will explore pathways of chi in the body for example: lung, liver, guts…

Wuxi dance will be introduced in the first session as a “no-mind “ meditation where spontaneous movement may arise to support release of unwanted stuck qi, and arriving into a freer space where the rhythm of the drum will support creative spontaneity. In the following weeks there will also be ‘somatic prompts’ towards a deeper embodied practice. It aims to be playful, sometimes working with objects from Nature. Please bring an A3 drawing pad/to make marks, or for embodied writing and crayons you prefer to use.

Am Poh-Eng

Mae Poh-Eng yn berfformiwr/dawnswraig llaw rhydd ac yn hwylusydd symud amgylcheddol o fewn gofodau gwyllt. Mae wedi dysgu 5 diwrnod encil yn Sir Benfro, Iwerddon ac ar hyn o bryd yn dysgu dawns reddfol Somatic rheolaidd yn Y Gwyr, yn y stiwdio ac mewn llefydd site-specific. Ei phrif ddylanwadau ydi Helen Poynor, Taiji Grandmaster a Lama, y diweddar Dr. Shen Hongxun, a ddysgodd hi Taijiwuxigong, Taiji 37 a iachâd ynni buqi. Mae ei synthesis, o ddawns somatig a dealltwriaeth o sut rydych yn symud trwy’r corff a’r Ddaear, yn ymgorffori bywgraffiad a’r byd nad yw’n ddynol fel ffynonellau ysbrydoliaeth ar gyfer ei gwaith, ei hysgrifau, ei byrfyfyr sain a’i dysgeidiaeth. Ers sawl blwyddyn mae Poh-Eng wedi astudio gyda Linda Hartley yn ‘The Discipline of Authentic Movement’. Mae Amy Voris a darlithwyr ar yr hen dîm MA mewn Dawns a Llesiant Somatig, wedi ysbrydoli ymagwedd anatomeg drwy brofiad at ei haddysgu.

Am Dosbarth

Wedi'i gwahodd fel dawnsiwr mewn fideo cyfres 1-8 “Monumentalise”, a gomisiynwyd gan 20/20 Project gan Sefydliad Celfyddydau Decolonising UAL, Mae hwn yn rhan o'r brif arddangosfa “We Are The Monument” o Ionawr - Rhagfyr 2024 yn Graves Art Oriel, Sheffield. Hefyd “Traces of Tissues”, darn gwisgoedd somatig a gomisiynwyd ar gyfer The Prague Quadrennial, 2019. Wedi’i goreograffu gan Sally Deane a Charlotte Ostergaard.

Drwy gydol mis Mai byddwn yn archwilio llwybrau chi yn y corff, er enghraifft, yr ysgyfaint, yr afu, y perfedd…

Bydd dawns Wuxi yn cael ei gyflwyno yn y sesiwn gyntaf fel myfyrdod “dim meddwl” lle gall symudiad digymell godi i gefnogi rhyddhau qi sownd digroeso, a chyrraedd gofod mwy rhydd lle bydd rhythm y drwm yn cefnogi digymelldeb creadigol. Yn ystod yr wythnosau dilynol hefyd bydd ‘ysgogiadau somatig’ tuag at arfer sydd wedi’i ymgorffori’n ddyfnach. Ei nod yw bod yn chwareus, weithiau gweithio gyda gwrthrychau o Natur. Dewch â phad lluniadu A3/i wneud marciau, neu ar gyfer ysgrifen ymgorfforedig a chreonau y mae'n well gennych eu defnyddio.
