Deborah Light

Date: Friday 2nd, 9th, 23rd February

Time: 10am - 11:30am

Venue: Chapter Arts, Cardiff, The Dance Studio

Accompanied by Sion Orgon

Deborah is an experienced dance artist, choreographer and movement director working collaboratively across dance, theatre, film and site based practice. She creates work independently and as co-director of Light/Ladd/Emberton, regularly performs for others, movement directs for theatre and lectures in movement at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She is based in Cardiff and has 3 young children.

An anti patriarchal perspective runs through Deborah’s creative practice. She invests in the moving body as a site for personal and collective knowledge and transformation. For her dancing is a site for deep research, pleasure and change.

In these classes Deborah will share ways of working that are fundamental to her creative practice and specific physical scores that are woven through the work she is currently developing ‘An Autopsy of a Mother, a Bear and a Fridge’.

We will begin by activating the spine, breath and central nervous system. Moving out to the periphery of the body we will work with a softening and re-establishing our edges, with pressure through external surfaces and with directionality through different parts of our body.

We will work alone and in contact with others.

Class is open to all with movement experience. The work is rigorous in attention without holding expectations of the forms that will emerge. Pleasure is always a priority.

Mae Deborah yn artist dawns, coreograffydd a cyfarwyddwr symud profiadol, yn gweithio o fewn dawns, theatr, ffilm ac ymarfer site based. Mae’n creu gwaith yn annibynnol ac fel cyd-gyfarwyddwr Light/Ladd/Emberton, yn perfformio’n rheolaidd i eraill, yn cyfarwyddo symud i’r theatr ac yn darlithio am symud yn y Coleg Cerdd a Drama. Mae wedi’i lleoli yn Gaerdydd ac mae ganddi 3 plentyn ifanc.

Mae persbectif gwrth-batriarchaidd yn rhedeg trwy ymarfer creadigol Deborah. Mae hi'n buddsoddi yn y corff symudol fel safle ar gyfer gwybodaeth bersonol a chyfunol a thrawsnewid. Iddi hi mae dawnsio yn safle ar gyfer ymchwil dwfn, pleser a newid.

Yn y dosbarthiadau yma mi fydd Deborah yn rhannu ffyrdd o weithio sydd yn sylfaenol i’w ymarfer creadigol a sgoriau corfforol sbesiffig sydd wedi eu plethu trwy’r gwaith mae hi’n ddatblygu ar hyn o bryd - ‘An Autopsy of a Mother, a Bear and a Fridge”.

Mi fyddwn yn dechrau trwy ddeffro’r asgwrn cefn, anadl a’r system nerfol ganolog. Gan symud allan i gyrion y corff fe fyddwn yn gweithio ar feddalu ac ailsefydlu ein ochrau, gyda pwysau trwy arwynebau allanol a chyfeiriadedd trwy wahanol rannau o'n corff.

Fe fyddwn yn gweithio yn unigol ac mewn cyswllt ag eraill.

Mae’r dosbarth ar agor i bawb â profiad o symud. Mae'r gwaith yn drylwyr ei sylw heb ddal disgwyliadau o'r ffurfiau a ddaw i'r amlwg. Mae pleser bob amser yn flaenoriaeth.
