About Jess
Jessica Lerner (she/her) has three decades of experience as a visual movement artist and teacher. Originally from London where she led movement for performance art workshops through the 90’s, she has been living in Brynaman, SW Wales since 2002 where she now has a movement studio that she teaches and rehearses from. Her work is choreography through improvisation and somatic practices, performance art, painting and installations to perform in. She is developing Knitting Fog, a performance project with Gaby Agis and Amy Voris on the Mynydd Du/ Black Mountain which will be performed May 2025.
Class Description
In these morning workshops we will be working in an emergent way with the body/mind in devising, and dancing with others. Exploring how sensing through movement outdoors in response to the environment can inform indoor dancing. Allowing the presence of the environment to be witnessed and exploring ways to do this. I will be sharing working processes from the Knitting fog trio where influences from Authentic movement, Skinner releasing technique and performance/live art are in the mix.
Focusing on exploring what is present in our bodies, with a caring, self-supporting and inquisitive stance, we will find ways to allow dancing to come from sensing the changing feelings of our anatomy, emotions and relationship with forms.

We will explore mapping of our interior landscapes in connection with the exterior space, exploring relational fields with other movers, architecture and wider perceptions of the environment.

Suitable for people with and without prior experience.

We may work outside in the front garden of Chapter as part of the workshop.

Yn y gweithdai boreol yma fe fyddwn yn gweithio mewn ffordd ddatblygol gyda’r corff/meddwl wrth ddyfeisio, gan ddawnsio ag eraill. Gan archwilio sut gall synhwyro trwy symud tu allan mewn ymateb i’r amgylchedd hysbysu dawnsio tu fewn. Caniatáu i bresenoldeb yr amgylchedd gael ei dystio ac archwilio ffyrdd o wneud hyn. Byddaf yn rhannu prosesau gwaith y triawd niwl Gweu lle mae dylanwadau o symudiad Authentic, techneg rhyddhau Skinner a pherfformio/celfyddyd fyw yn y gymysgedd.
Gan ffocysu ar archwilio beth sydd yn ein cyrff, gyda safiad hunangynhaliol, gofalus a chwilfrydig, byddwn yn dod o hyd i ffyrdd i ganiatáu i ddawnsio ddod o synhwyro teimladau newidiol ein hanatomeg, emosiynau a pherthynas â ffurfiau.
Byddwn yn archwilio mapio ein tirweddau mewnol mewn cysylltiad â'r gofod allanol, gan archwilio meysydd perthynol â symudwyr eraill, pensaernïaeth a chanfyddiadau ehangach o'r amgylchedd.

A guided movement and choreography workshop inspired by Knitting Fog.

Knitting Fog is a site specific movement based performance on Herbert's Quarry, Mynydd Du, near where Jess lives. Jess collaborates with dancers Gaby Agis and Amy Voris to make a trio which will be performed on May 10th.
